In Latosha's words:
I
got started from my high school track and field coach who
was also a summer track coach. I used to love competing at
the AAU and USA track and field summer championships, and to
this day, I support summer track and field camps. This past
summer I spoke to the Baltimore Track F.A.C. of Baltimore
City. I shared words of encouragement and service, as an
example to the group as someone who has been in their shoes;
and as a result, graduated from a major University and have
been in the top 10 in the USA as a 400 meter hurdler. I love
track and field and speaking to folks about this discipline.
I've always been athletic, though I've been running track
and field for 9 years, I have been in sports in general
since the age of 7. I have always love to compete, in
everything!
Interests include comedy shows, and anything that makes me laugh. I love to create and design things, from clothing to household settings. Enjoy listening to Rap, R&B, Gospel, and Reggae music. Favorite actors include Hallie Berry, Will Smith, Taraja P. Henson, Denzel Washington, Joy Bryant, and Martin Lawrence.
I really enjoy my career of track and field because I
love to travel and experience different cultures. During the
course of my young running career, I have been to much of
the United States, El Salvador, San Salvador; Greece, Italy,
France, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, Japan, etc.
My favorite place to compete and visit so far is Japan! I
love Japan and the Japanese culture. Some future places I
would like to visit are Africa, London, Finland, China,
Russia, Egypt, Canada, Jamaica, Haiti, Barbados and Alaska.
I am a big family person and wish I could take my mother,
Walinda Wallace with me everywhere I go. She is one of my
best friends. She often takes vacation leave from work at
the MTA (Mass Transportation Authority) to travel with me to
variius track meets in the U.S. I also wish I could take my
lovely puppy Aijah with me when I travel-she is an 8
month-old pit bull that loves to run. Really, I wish I could
take anybody with me when I travel, because track is so
individualized that it can be tough on the heart when you
are in countries that you do not know the language.
This past summer I got to spend my off season in my
hometown of Baltimore City. This is where I rule, I get to
really be Miss Wallace. I have my family and friends,
different schools and camps wanting me to speak to students
and campers. Motivational speaking is one of my hobbies,
along with fashion, runway and print modeling. My best
friend Olesha Haskett is a wedding photographer and I posed
for her and did a runway show for a Baltimore Designer named
Devon. Had so much fun, I love everything about fashion, and
would love to be an athletic model as well. Some of my other
hobbies include styling and maintaining all natural hair,
and writing. I plan to write a children's book soon; I feel
that there are not a lot of different heroes out there for
young children. I enjoy being the neighborhood hero because
I did not have a female neighborhood hero when I was growing
up, but did have a male one-my daddy Bruce Wallace, a
Baltimore City police officer. He is always working, and I
guess that accounts for my work ethic as an athlete. My
parents are both workaholics. It is part of living in a big
city on the east coast-things move much faster and are very
expensive.
Now, I am back training in San Marcos, TX where things are a lot slower and in the country. I train alone and with a Russian Coach, Galina Bukharinashe, a 4x100 meter Olympic Bronze medalist who has mastered technique and hurdling. She is a really tuough cookie and very professional... I love her for that.
My short term goals include eating better than ever, loving me first and competeing healthy and competatively this indoor season.
My Long term goals consist of becoming a novelist and bestseller, living out my dream of becoming an Olympic & World Champion, and world record holder. I hope to be an Athletic Director or a Sports Broadcaster in my late 40's, God willing.
One thing that hardly anyone knows about me is that I could draw really well as a kid; and went to the TWIGGS program at The Baltimore School of the ARTS.
